Washington Township Residents
Since moving to Long Valley in 2000 Margaret and her husband Jim have been very active in supporting the Washington Township Schools, volunteering on various committees and boards. They believe that acting upon and demonstrating charity, volunteerism and involvement is a truly effective way to support this important life value in their small children and in their lives. However, the ultimate objective is to make a lasting contribution to the overall love of reading. The Reading Fairy works at the request and with the guidance of our professional teachers and school administration who wish to make her available to children. She volunteers on that basis and accepts no payment from our schools.
Some people have asked whether public monies are being used to fund the activities of The Reading Fairy. Because of her commitment to education and her deep love of this community, all programs The Reading Fairy presents in the Washington Township School District are donated on a strictly volunteer basis with no public funds or taxpayer money used or solicited. Several groups and individuals have asked what they might do to support or contribute to help The Reading Fairy program. At their urging the "Wish List" was created with only private donations accepted.
Schools and public libraries outside the Washington Township school district invite The Reading Fairy into their classrooms and programs. A fee is charged for those visits. Part of the proceeds from these fees are donated to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of Stephanie Motz-Miner. The remainder is used to support and grow The Reading Fairy program.
